E’ davvero una fortuna che i Signori Winstons (Enro, Rob e Linnon) 
di Milano ci abbiano preso gusto a pochi mesi dall’omonimo album di esordio (tra le uscite top del 2016) realizzando due nuove gemme riflettenti maestria e sintonia con il presente underground. Parliamo anche di un crescente interesse per il Canterbury sound e per reimmaginare suoni fine ’60 primi ’70 dove le barriere tra i generi svanirono in un intrigante scenario di confluenze.
Ispirati da gruppi come Soft Machine, Gong e con storie individuali dense di esperienze, The Winstons inventano una fluida traiettoria personale ora esposta su questo vinile 7 pollici registrato in trasferta ai Tilehouse Studios di Londra gestiti da Luke Oldfield (figlio di Mike). Copertina spettacolare per un gioco di 
prestigio vertiginoso nello spazio-tempo dei primi anni 80 dove omaggiare gli Stranglers di “Golden Brown” e materializzare l’originale “Black Shopping Bag” sulla B-side. Si decolla con un valzer eccentrico ondeggiato da un canto indolente e frullato in triple echo tastiere-basso-percussioni per planare in un caleidoscopio rock jazz in costante mutazione. Difficile smettere di ascoltarli. Doverosa segnalazione a sigillo del recente tour italiano per la contemporanea uscita su CD / DVD di “Live in Rome” (AMS Records), l’intero concerto registrato lo scorso Gennaio all’Angelo Mai.

A due decadi dalla fondazione la visione geomusicale di 
Rocket Recordings esposta in anni recenti innesca il capitolo di fine 2016 con una saga nordica tutta svedese. Dopo i nuovi album di Goat e Josefin Ohrn + Liberation, ecco i Flowers Must Die collettivo di Linköping già magnificati tra i favoriti di Plenirockium del 2015. “Sista Valsen” arricchisce una serie esclusiva di EP dell’etichetta di Bristol in tema kosmische-space rock realizzata su vinili con copertine – labirinto ed espande la formazione a sestetto con l’arrivo di Lisa Ekelund (voce, violino e theremin, attiva anche nei Katla di Stoccolma freschi di esordio con l’album “Embryo”). Insieme a Jonas Höglund (guitar, synth), Lars Hoffsten (drums), Martin Daun (bass), Rickard Daun (synth, trumpet), Sven Walan (guitar, glockenspiel, accordion) incidono le sessions che valgono questo EP intitolato dal brano di apertura.
‘Sista Valsen’ (L’ultimo Valzer) è immediato e sfrecciante tra percussioni tribali in un profondo interstellare acustico-elettrico-elettronico sullo sfondo di bagliori orientali riattivati da ‘Kruta’ nel mantra ‘psychedelic underground’. Poi il viaggio decelera per contemplare aurore cosmiche dove inebriarsi in assenza di peso con il fluido magnetico di ‘Taskig Stämning Annars’ e con le essenze jazz subsoniche di ‘Varför’. Dopo la partecipazione al Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia, Flowers Must Die sono al lavoro per il nuovo album nei mitici studi Silence di Koppom (dove registrarono anche Kebnekajse, Älgarnas Trädgård, Träd Gräs och Stenar).

Rinnoviamo la stima per Beautify Junkyards, quintetto di Lisbona 
intervistato in Marzo 2016 sull’entusiasmo generato dal loro secondo album “The Beast That Shouted Love”, ora immutato nell’ascolto di questo singolo pubblicato da Ghost Box in una collana hauntologica su vinili 7 pollici. Due nuove canzoni, ad intensificare una magnifica discografia, comunicanti e affacciate (anche) su moderne prospettive psych-folk .
Apre “Constant Flux”, allo stesso tempo accogliente e misteriosa con il suo abbraccio d’ombra generato da arpeggi cristallini in movimento nel frullio di sintetizzatori e battiti risonanti sul canto espressivo di João Branco Kyron.
La magia prosegue con “Pirâmide” una danza crepuscolare ricamata in portoghese da Rita Vian dove perdersi nel magistrale equilibrio acustico – elettronico, un viaggio dalle comuni hippies di Skye alla new Brazilian music. Estasiante.

It’s really a good thing that the gentlemen Winstons (Enro, Rob and Linnon) from Milan got a taste for recording with two new gems reflecting mastery and tune with the current underground events few months later the eponymous debut album (among the top releases of 2016). We also talk about a growing interest in the Canterbury sound and in reimagining late 60s early 70s sounds where the barriers between music styles vanished in an intriguing scenario of confluences.
Inspired by bands like Soft Machine, Gong and with individual stories full of experiences, The Winstons invent a fluid personal trajectory now exposed on this 7 inch vinyl recorded on the road at Tilehouse Studios in London run by Luke Oldfield (Mike’s son). Fabulous artwork and vertiginous magic trick in the space-time of early 80s where pay homage to the Stranglers of “Golden Brown” and materialize the original “Black Shopping Bag” on the B-side. It takes off with a quirky waltz fluctuated by indolent vocals and swirled in triple echo keyboards-bass-percussion to glide in a jazz rock kaleidoscope continuously changing. Hard to stop listening to them. Right highlighting after the recent Italian tour for the simultaneous release of “Live in Rome” (CD + DVD, AMS Records), the entire concert recorded last January at Angelo Mai.

Two decades after the founding, the geo-musical vision of Rocket Recordings exposed in recent years triggered the late 2016 chapter with an all-Swedish nordic saga. After the new albums of Goat and Josefin Öhrn + Liberation, here are the Flowers Must Die collective from Linköping already magnified among the Plenirockium favourites of 2015. “Sista Valsen” enriches an exclusive 12″EPs vinyl series with maze artworks issued by the Bristol label in the matter of kosmische-space rock and expands the band line-up to a sextet with the arrival of Lisa Ekelund (voice, violin and theremin, also active in Katla from Stockholm recently highlighted with the first album “Embryo”). Together with Jonas Höglund (guitar, synth), Lars Hoffsten (drums), Martin Daun (bass), Rickard Daun (synth, trumpet), Sven Walan (guitar, glockenspiel, accordion) play their first recording sessions that are worth this EP entitled from the opening track.
‘Sista Valsen’ (The Last Waltz) is immediate and speeding between tribal percussions into a deep acoustic-electric-electronic interstellar with oriental glows background reactivated afterwards by ‘ Kruta in the mantra ‘Psychedelic Underground’. The journey decelerates to contemplate cosmic dawns and inebriated in weightlessness with the magnetic fluid of ‘Taskig Stämning Annars’ and the subsonic jazz essences of ‘Varför’. After the participation to the Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia, Flowers Must Die are at work for the new album in the legendary Silence studies of Koppom (where recorded also Kebnekajse, Älgarnas Trädgård, Träd, Gräs och Stenar).

We renew our appreciation for Beautify Junkyards, Lisbon quintet interviewed in March 2016 on the enthusiasm generated by their second album “The Beast That Shouted Love”, now unchanged in listening to this single released by Ghost Box in a hauntological series on 7 inch vinyls. Two new songs to intensify a magnificent discography, communicating and facing (also) on modern psych-folk perspectives.
Opens “Constant Flux”, at the same time warm and mysterious with his embrace of shadow generated by crystalline arpeggios moving in the flitter of synthesizers and resonant beats on the expressive singing by João Branco Kyron . The magic continues with “Pyramid” a twilight dance embroidered in Portuguese language by Rita Vian to get lost in the masterful acoustic – electronic balance, a journey from the hippy communes of Skye to the new Brazilian music.
