Rivestire un’immagine di asceti simili a sciamani e incantarla, renderla cosmica, misteriosa, abbagliante. Ecco Baba Naga da Sheffield: Tom “Moz” Casserly (guitar), 
Dan Booth (bass) e Tom Borgoyne (drums). Un power trio di recente genesi da cui si sviluppa un’idea di psychedelia trascendentale modulante volumetrie heavy blues e riflessi kosmische-shoegazing in un’enfasi di spazio interiore.
L’esordio su Bandcamp nel 2015 con un singolo digitale che offre ‘Popo Bawa’ a “Pzyk Vol. 2”, la compilation del Liverpool Psych Fest edizione 2016. Poi “Somos Lobos / Odmience“ e “Plná Krvy / DeificYen“ prime uscite ‘fisiche’ su vinili 10 pollici con artwork disegnati da David Medel (artista grafico visionario di Detroit conosciuto come WB72) e prodotti da Ross Orton (Arctic Mokeys, Fall). Questi due singoli sono anche 
la contemplazione di uno space rock chitarristico Hendrixiano proiettato da una sezione ritmica magmatica in una galassia di riverberi incandescenti, droni orientaleggianti come sciami di sitar, suoni sospesi tra canti rituali nell’oscillare wah wah e ripartenze furiose travolte dai distorsori. Pura energia.

Singolo di debutto sfolgorante per The Beatniks di Southend-on-Sea (Essex, UK) una delle mete preferite dai Mods nei vari momenti di popolarità del movimento dalla sua nascita sul finire dei 50s. Da queste radici, Tony Camp (vocals), Andy McAvoy (Hammond organ), Paul Lupton (lead guitar), Sean Thorogood (bass) e Heather Campbell (drums) rivelano subito un’identità musicale con dinamiche garage – soul – beat sostenute dai potenti vibrati armonici di organo Hammond in costante dialogo con un 
viavai chitarristico denso di effetti fuzz-wah-wah.
Incise su vinile 7 pollici autoprodotto, “CC (Love Surprise)” e “Ball & Chain“ trasmettono vibrazioni elettrizzanti, un freakbeat contagioso che si può ballare in pieno rievocando l’esuberanza di Spencer Davis Group, Small Faces, Brian Auger + Julie Driscoll & The Trinity. Forse ci sono anche le premesse per una ondata Mod in arrivo sperando di ascoltare una nuova generazione di musicisti confrontarsi ancora con questi suoni, per ora godiamoci i Beatniks immaginando le possibili meraviglie di un primo intero album.

The Kumari hanno mantenuto la promessa rivelata nell’intervista a Plenirockium in Ottobre 2015 di ritornare su vinile 7″ con un suono più heavy. Si tratta del 
quinto singolo per questa band londinese tenuta in pista dal leader Claude Pelletier tenace nel superare defezioni e nell’esprimersi sempre sorprendente. Una creatività di natura psichedelica sixties oriented da cui emergono le geometrie variabili che sostengono l’originalità di ogni uscita affidata con classe e devozione a una ‘forma fisica’ (il vinile 7 pollici) storica ed ora cospicua nel rendere la discografia dei Kumari degna di ogni collezione che si rispetti.
“Abyss” arriva dritto al suono ‘heavy’ abbattendosi sui sensi con una tempesta elettrica garage punk alterata da distorsori e ruvidi riverberi. Dinamiche wall of guitars creano echi acidissimi sbandando a capofitto in un climax euforico di frenesia rock’n’roll. Qualcosa di attualizzante tra MC5, Tyrannosaurus Rex e Pretty Things. L’intensità sale con “Space Witch” innescata da feedback ultrasonici verso un fragore sgargiante glam. One, two, three, four… five (and more please)!!!

Dall’avvio degli anni 2010 il movimento neopsichedelico ha compiuto nuove evoluzioni anche attraverso la nascita di scene locali come nella mitica Liverpool e The Wicked Whispers sono stati tra i primi gruppi ad emergere nel 2011 con “The Dark Delights Of The Wicked Whispers” su vinile 10 pollici oggi rara gemma da collezione. Poi una serie di singoli e il bellissimo album “Maps Of the Mystic” tra i migliori del 2014. Michael Murphy (guitar & vocals), Toby Virgo (bass & vocals), Andrew Smith (guitar), Steven Penn (organ & keys) e Nathan Sayer (drums) esplorano il lato più melodico della psichedelia anni 60, uno sviluppo creativo da una fonte ispirativa di confluenze in cui l’Inghilterra di Zombies e Hollies incontra la West Coast di Love e Byrds.
“If I Set You Free / Zodiac Girl“ svolgono da una coppia di chitarre in jingle jangle che le rende sublimi, popolandole di suoni vibranti solcati da un frequente volteggiare di tastiere. Rispondono bene anche al bisogno di magia e sentimento. Qualcosa che sembra emergere dalla luce come colori percepiti dal mondo perduto dell’immaginazione. Il loro vortice di accordi e armonie scintillanti confermano la musica dei Wicked Whispers rivelatrice di bellezza senza tempo.

Play an image of ascetics similar to shamans and enchant it, make it cosmic, mysterious, dazzling. Here are Baba Naga from Sheffield: Tom “Moz” Casserly (guitar), Dan Booth (bass) and Tom Borgoyne (drums). A recently founded power trio from which develops an idea of transcendental psychedelia modulating heavy blues volumetries and kosmische-shoegazing reflections in an emphasis of inner space.

These two singles are also the contemplation of an Hendrixian guitar space rock projected by a magmatic rhythm section in a galaxy of incandescent reverberations, eastern drones like swarms of sitar, sounds suspended between ritual chants in fluctuating wah wah and furious restarts overwhelmed by distortion. Superb debut single for the Beatniks of Southend-on-Sea (Essex, UK) one of the favorite destinations of Mods in the various moments of popularity of the movement from its birth at the end of the 50s. From these roots, Tony Camp (vocals), Andy McAvoy (Hammond organ), Paul Lupton (Lead Guitar), Sean Thorogood (Bass) and Heather Campbell (drums) immediately reveal a musical identity with garage – soul – beat dynamics supported by powerful harmonic vibratos of the Hammond organ in constant dialogue with a guitar coming and going full of fuzz-wah-wah effects.
Recorded on a self-produced 7-inch vinyl, “CC (Surprise Love)” and “Ball & Chain” transmit electrifying vibrations, a cool freakbeat that you can dance fully recalling the exuberance of the Spencer Davis Group, Small Faces, Brian Auger + Julie Driscoll & The Trinity. Probably there are also the basis for another Mod wave incoming hoping to hear a new generation of musicians still face these sounds, for now let’s enjoy the Beatniks imagining the possible wonders of a first full album.

The Kumari kept the word revealed in the interview to Plenirockium of October 2015 to return on 7-inch vinyl with a heavier sound. This is the fifth single for the London band kept alive by the leader Claude Pelletier tenacious in overcoming defections,and in express themselves always astonishing. A psychedelic creativity sixties oriented from which emerge the variable geometries that support the originality of each issue entrusted with class and devotion to an historic physical format (7 inch vinyl) and now conspicuous in making the Kumari discography worthy of any self-respecting collection.
‘Abyss’ goes straight to the heavy sound crashing down on the senses with a garage punk electrical storm altered by distortion and raw reverberations. Dynamic wall of guitars create very acid echoes swerving headlong into an euphoric climax of rock’n’roll excitement. Something actualizing between MC5, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Pretty Things. The intensity rises with ‘Space Witch’ triggered by ultrasonic feedbacks to a roaring flaming glam. One, two, three, four… five (and more please)!!!
