Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation

“Mirage”

Rocket Recordings (LP + CD)

The great liberation through hearing in the Bardo, a promise from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. A tribute, an inspiration. A form of asceticism that chasing streets full of narcotic jelly.

Josefin Öhrn and Fredrik Joelson resound among the tentacles of Tago Mago (Can) and the grace of a motorik generated by a tambourine. Sons of a cosmic revolution, they glide between the instruments devoted to electronics, companions of other sons who explore apocalyptic skies in Teutonic essence. The hypnotic reverberations mark light sides, ineluctably suspended between dream pop and shoegaze malleable choices. Josefin’s voice whispers imaginary wizardry with hushed melodies that cross Margaret Fiedler at the time of Laika and Alex Gehring when trilling in Ringo Deathstarr. Perhaps to take up the challenge to stay grounded with Spaceman 3 guitars or the avant-garde of caustic-occult themes.

The debut “Horse Dance” counted on an captivating effect where glacial lights and dazzling led, throbbed sure. Now the elaboration increases the level of involvement and digs deep in the sound of the band, up to settle new rhythmic substrates, sources of ritualistic minimalism. “Mirage” flows on spells constantly into a stupor, focusing the mirror image into something very far away, a seductive bubble in repetitiveness. The psychedelic lands draw corroded sighs into songs by expanded percussive velvets, an infectious heartbeat.

‘Looking For You’ manifests vintage tambourine in some electrified punk shocks scoured by dying acidifications with purple horizons. ‘Rushing Through My Mind’ trembles in his enchanting harmonic model, the mantra ‘In My Trip’ which transmutes ‘In Madrid’ and expands with ‘Lollypop Rainbow’. French singing, penetrating echoes, fuzz bass, an ecstatic dance. Just examples of a specific exhortation, thanks to really modern and talented grooves to be investigated to prevent any superficial impression or impromptu listening. The album moves in an unreal way, as the title suggests, sounds, dazed noises, assonances with noise inserts, especially the obsessive cyclic tone, regular, constant, endless distortion into the space, into the dimension.
