Year Of Taurus, Shigaraki (IT)

Year Of Taurus

“Topsoils”

Una carezza iniziatica al viaggio che prosegue con ‘I Can Hear The Voice Of The Planet From Here’ incanto fluorescente trasmesso nello spazio di corde in sospensione estatica.

Una risposta a “Year Of Taurus, Shigaraki (IT)”

  1. English translation…

Let’s start this new year from Italy with the introduction of two innovative and intriguing side projects born within Sherpa, a band from Pescara (Abruzzo) that has often oriented the antennae of Plenirockium. An experience animated by fertile creativity now nourished by the Astral Concrete label in which, in addition to their production, the new inventions of guitarist Matteo Dossena and bassist Franz Cardone, respectively Year Of Taurus and Shigaraki, have merged. During the long night of the lockdowns the two founding members have recovered ideas from various recordings to complete them, creating two solo works that will see the light next January 15th in download and for collectors in a very limited edition on CD wrapped in wonderful underground hadcrafted artworks.

    Year of Taurus
    “Topsoils”
    Astral Concrete

Year Of Taurus manifests itself with “Topsoils” in a story that ‘is about memories, about the melancholy that hides in the plots of time, about friends and feelings that no longer exist; time swallows everything up and our lives necessarily flow too fast to be able to give space to every nuance’. An emotional density evoked by the suggestive title in referring to the layers of soil with a high concentration of microorganisms where most of the biological activity of the terrestrial soil takes place, including the development of the root systems.

Roots that Matteo Dossena (voice, guitar, synth, percussion), with the contribution in some songs of Franz Cardone (bass) and Giuseppe Sericola (drums), nourishes of Sherpa elements that are immediately highlighted with ‘Topsoil’ on dreamlike, teeming developments of reverberations and evanescent voices. Delicate harmonies that diversify in the soft crystalline mazes of ‘Wise Woman’ and ‘Fever, When I Was a Child’, an enchantment of Westcoastian psychedelia moved by upbeat rhythms that ripple in a rising of dazzling light. Atmospheres reflected in the celestial dimension of the first David Crosby, in the contemporary shoegaze spaces of MT Mountain and Julie’s Haircut. As in ‘Tethered to the Stars’, a melodic cosmos of tinkling echoes that evolve into a pastoral kaleidoscope of polyphonic arpeggios. Sounds that tend to emphasize the shadows in the dark contrasts of ‘Linesight’ and ‘Gate Goat’ to expand into “Daddy”, a nocturnal ballad that rests on the notes like enchanted dew. The ending is the absolute beauty of ‘Piedi nel Lago’ with text in Italian, ethno-cosmic psychedelia introduced by the voices of children along a game of eccentric waves where deep and space keyboards interact with acoustic strings, percussion, cymbals to evoke the magic acid folk of Claudio Rocchi.
“Topsoils” floats in the psychedelic sound, where the roots of the vital and the natural intertwine harmoniously.

    Shigaraki
    “Planetes”
    Astral Concrete

If Year of Taurus is the visible hemisphere of the planet Sherpa with Shigaraki we are faced with the hidden and mysterious side, something transcendent and at the same time identifiable in some traits of Sherpa thought: ‘Planetes is a concept album containing a series of realities related to the future of the human beings, sound images that describes the relationship between inner human feelings and its physical and spiritual environment’. Franz Cardone conducts “Planetes” with his subsonic magic instrument, a beautiful four-stringed Zon Hyperbass. A rare listening experience in the context of projects where the electric bass is a soloist and carries out the task of orchestrating the sound, which is skilfully developed together with electronic sequences along ambient streams.

Sidereal vertigo initiated by ‘Instant Traveling’ on minimal post rock atmospheres crossed by flashes of strings modulated at feedback amplitude. An initiatory caress to the journey that continues with ‘I Can Hear The Voice Of The Planet From Here’, a fluorescent enchantment transmitted in the space of strings in ecstatic suspension. The kinematic currents of ‘7020’ dance on an electronic swarm crossed by oscillating reverberations in large movements that darken in ‘7021’ on the data captured by some “Artificial Intelligence” of the planet Warp. Motions that glide over ‘ABC Asteroid Belt Colonization’ where overwhelming fretless vibrations at metal frequency evoke the solo adventures of Doug Wimbish (Living Color). Bass-scapes excursions that proceed towards ‘Io’ and flex into the void of ‘Orbit 2 1’ like light waves carrying harmonics. ‘Kessler Syndrome’ elaborates electronic echoes that resonate as symptoms of fear in the scenery of the space debris as exposed in Alfonso Cuarón’s beautiful movie “Gravity”. ‘Moon’s Biology Portrait’ launches the final message to the Sherpa base coded “Psychedelic Battles Vol. 6” for a dub version of On-U Sound phenomena.

“Planetes” explores the unknown between intuition and sound, an act of pure audacity and, at the same time, of profound interiority.
