Musica che trova spazio, si perde in colori armoniosi e contempla in un procedere ciclico di suoni spontanei dove liberare la 
creatività dai confini formali (e anche geografici) che separano i generi musicali. Rock elastico, tropicalismo chitarristico psichedelico, folk elettrico, idee timbriche in costante sintonia con pensieri jazz per un crossover ad alta definizione che brilla di luce propria e fluisce come una carezza dinamica sui canali stereo. Musica che si presenta con un nome: “Earthsong of Silence” album di esordio dei Wax Machine affidato alla produzione di Go Kurosawa dei cosmic folk travellers giapponesi Kikagaku Moyo. Un respiro ampio sul mondo che si svolge creativamente attraverso un gioco di magie ricorrenti in cui scorgere fonti ispirative ed apprezzarle nel rigenerarsi con tonica originalità. Questa canzone della Terra afferma anche una gioiosa appartenenza alla natura ma invita ad ascoltare in silenzio il grido di allarme del nostro pianeta minacciato dai cambiamenti climatici e dalle attività umane iperproduttive di sfruttamento delle risorse.
Quanto di buono era stato seminato dai Wax Machine con tre EP autoprodotti (“Harlequin’s Patchwork”, “The This” e “Mind Palace”) fiorisce ora come un caleidoscopio in cui confluiscono le esperienze del leader chitarrista Lau Ro, brasiliano di nascita e italo inglese di crescita, unite al vivere nella solare Brighton anche come parte di una nascente scena musicale partecipativa, rintracciabile sia nella genesi del gruppo che nei recenti debutti di realtà affini come Rokurokubi (“Saturn in Pisces”), Hill (“Into Outta This World”) e Strange Cages (“Pop Therapy”). Il sound dei Wax Machine nasce dagli sviluppi della chitarra di Lau e del flauto di Izzi (Isobel Jones) che destreggiano in costante prossimità così come i loro arrangiamenti vocali sostenuti da una sezione ritmica che completa il quartetto e fa muovere il corpo.
L’apertura è pura contemplazione: ‘Shhh…’ estasi di fronte alla meraviglia della natura evocata forse da ripetuti ascolti di “In a 
Silent Way”, capolavoro di Miles Davis. Poi ‘Shade’ cresce leggera su voci oscillanti in echi spaziali per dirigersi tra frequenze cosmic-funk sul pianeta Os Mutantes di ‘Truth’ animato da coinvolgenti trame fuzz-wah chitarristiche e sorprese jazz-bossa. Il saluto al sole è ‘Sun Dance’ radiosità tropicalia-westcoastiana strumentale che si sviluppa su un tappeto ritmico di scuola Airto Moreira per innescare la fotosintesi freakbeat di ‘Time Machine’ dove rendere verosimile una session tra Syd Barrett ed Hermeto Pascoal. Una via metabolica che ritorna strumentale in ‘Pattern’ condotta dal flauto su deliziosi fraseggi wah wah in un morbido sfavillare acido.
Il suono cosmopolita dei Wax Machine sintetizza gli elementi prelevati dall’universo musicale e li attualizza su sviluppi imprevedibili anche nel rinnovare la bellezza di felici sperimentazioni fine 60s guidate da chitarra e flauto (Quintessence, Gong, 
Womb, Sweet Smoke, Insect Trust…) in contesti dove jazz e folk dialogano con la psychedelia sfiorati da brezze canterburyane, quasi uno scenario utopistico di world music. Ma c’è ancora tempo per un giro del mondo con soste a Rio, Londra e Varanasi nello splendido volo di ‘Birdsong’ e poi nell’incedere spirituale di ‘Turiya’, stato di coscienza pura con Don Cherry e i Grateful Dead sullo sfondo. Il finale è ‘Misty Mountain’ delizia acustica che si promette vivace al futuro anche auspicando “Earthsong of Silence” messaggero di prossime meraviglie.
Nel frattempo le voci sfumano ad ammirare la natura e ad ascoltare in silenzio.

Music that finds space, get lost in harmonious colors and contemplates in a cyclical progression of spontaneous sounds where freeing creativity from the formal (and also geographical) boundaries that separate musical genres. Elastic rock, psychedelic guitar Tropicália, electric folk, timbric ideas in constant harmony with jazz thoughts for a high definition crossover that shines with its own light and flows like a dynamic caress on stereo channels. Music that comes with a name: “Earthsong of Silence” debut album by Wax Machine entrusted to the production of Go Kurosawa by Japanese cosmic folk travellers Kikagaku Moyo. A broad breath on the world that unfolds creatively through a game of recurring magic in which to see inspiring sources and appreciate them in regenerating with tonic originality. This song of the Earth also affirms a joyful belonging to nature but invites to listen in silence to the cry of alarm of our planet threatened by climate change and by hyper-productive human activities of exploitation of resources.
The good things had been sown by the Wax Machines with three self-produced EPs (“Harlequin’s Patchwork”, “The This” and “Mind Palace”) now bloom as a kaleidoscope in which the experiences of the leader guitarist Lau Ro, Brazilian by birth and Italian – English for growth, combined with living in the sunny Brighton also as part of a nascent participatory music scene, traceable both in the genesis of the group and in the recent debuts of similar realities such as Rokurokubi (“Saturn in Pishes”), Hill (“Into Outta This World “) and Strange Cages (” Pop Therapy “). The sound of Wax Machine comes from the developments of Lau’s guitar and Izzi’s flute (Isobel Jones) which juggle in constant proximity as well as their vocal arrangements supported by a rhythmic section that completes the quartet and makes the body move.
The opening is pure contemplation: ‘Shhh …’ ecstasy in the face of the wonder of nature evoked perhaps by repeated listening of “In a Silent Way”, the Miles Davis masterpiece. Then ‘Shade’ grows lightly on voices oscillating in spatial echoes to move between cosmic-funk frequencies on the planet Os Mutantes of ‘Truth’ animated by engaging guitar fuzz-wah effects and jazz-bossa surprises. The greeting to the sun is ‘Sun Dance’ instrumental tropicalia-westcoastian radiance that develops on a rhythmic carpet of Airto Moreira school to trigger the freakbeat photosynthesis of ‘Time Machine’ where to make a session between Syd Barrett and Hermeto Pascoal plausible. A metabolic path that returns instrumental in ‘Pattern’ conducted by the flute on delicious wah wah phrasing in a soft acid sparkle.
The cosmopolitan sound of Wax Machine synthesizes the elements taken from the musical universe and updates them on unpredictable developments also in renewing the late 60s beauty of fitting experiments guided by guitar and flute (Quintessence, Gong, Womb, Sweet Smoke, Insect Trust …) in contexts where jazz and folk dialogue with psychedelia touched by Canterbury breezes, almost an utopian world music scenario. But there is still time for a world tour with stops in Rio, London and Varanasi in the splendid flight of ‘Birdsong’ and then the spiritual manifestation of ‘Turiya’, a state of pure consciousness with Don Cherry and Grateful Dead in the background. The ending is ‘Misty Mountain’, an acoustic delight that promises a lively future, also hoping for “Earthsong of Silence” as messenger of upcoming wonders.
Meanwhile, the voices fade to admire nature and listen in silence.
