The Chemistry Set si formano a Londra e arrivano da lontano iniziando a suonare nel passaggio tra gli anni ‘8o e ’90, un attraversamento che collega importanti moti neopsichedelici planetari avvenuti nei primi anni delle due decadi. In quella terra di mezzo la loro rielaborazione può cogliere colori e suoni 
sulle onde gravitazionali del big bang 60s intercettate da Creation Records e Paisley Underground dopo il 1977 di Soft Boys e Jam.
Una vitalità artistica variamente esposta su cassette (via Acid Tapes), singoli vari (via Imaginary Records), compilations tributo (Syd Barrett), e un paio di album di cui il primo (“Sounds Like Paintings”) mai realizzato. Grandi attese, stampa specializzata e radio in fermento (regolarmente trasmessi anche dal leggendario John Peel) per un sogno interrotto all’inizio degli anni ’90 nonostante il turbinio sfrecciante The Set con un due singoli (Polydor). Poi passano 15 anni ed il flusso esistenziale si rinnova nel 2009 con “Alchemy#101” (Skittlebrau Records), un ritorno colmo di straripante energia dove tutto si trasforma come in una reazione chimica anche nell’aderire all’attualità underground ed il percorso creativo dei Chemistry Set può proseguire sul risultato delle loro ricerche in un nuovo studio popsike sulle proprietà pop dell’esperienza psichedelica, una festa in divenire ancora diretta dai due fondatori: Dave McLean e Paul Lake.
I passi successivi della discografia seguono un ritmo costante, dall’album “This Day Will Never Happen Again” (Dead Bees, 2010), alla ripresa dell’attività live, alla serie di singoli ed EP (inclusi i remix supersonici di ‘Chemistry Is Just Numbers’ – Tsunami, 2011 – a cura del loro partner di Barcellona dj Gato ) fino ai singoli 7″ più recenti usciti per la sempre più sorprendente Fruits de Mer Records che giustamente realizza anche questo nuovo album.
“The Endless More and More” parte fortissimo da tamburi esotermici sulla maestosa sezione fiati di ‘The Splendour of the Universe’ tra sciami wah wah e risonanze Dukes of Stratosphear. Profonda e scintillante la musica dei Chemistry Set approda all’alta fedeltà grazie anche ad una produzione impeccabile che potenzia alcuni titoli dei singoli come ‘Time to Breathe’, una ballata Beatlesiana nell’estasi di echi, glissando, cori celestiali e ‘Come Kiss Me Vibrate and Smile’ meraviglia fuzz su effetti in 
reverse nel solco garage melodico tastieristico. Formule immediate che configurano motivi memorabili come ‘The Fountains of Neptune’ e ‘A Cure for the Afflicted Inflicted’ svolta su vastità psych-blues Yardbirdsiane già in coppia con ‘Elapsed Memories’ e rilanciate dall’omonimo EP 7″ del 2014.
Una sintesi nel cuore della forma canzone con rese imprevedibili come ‘Crawling Back to You’, bizzarria country a volteggiare in un luna park slideggiante e preludio ad ‘Albert Hofmann’, caloroso omaggio al chimico-scenziato-filosofo sui suoni di una giostra ultrariverberata dove gira il suo ‘bambino difficile’ in una giocosa narrazione vicina a Robyn Hitchcock. I sensi vengono inondati nel viavai chitarre – tastiere restituite con nitidezza da ritmiche potenti, impossibile stare fermi sulla frenesia mod-freakbeat di ‘International Rescue’ e sulle ariosità westcoastiane dei jingle jangle di ‘The Canyon of the Crescent Moon’. Quando l’elettricità va in dissolvenza acustica emergono ‘Winter Sun’ e ‘The Open Window’, incanti misticheggianti di intensa bellezza tra arpeggi cristallini, strumenti orientali e orchestrazioni avvolgenti che evocano i Love di “Forever Changes”.
La fisica di “The Endless More and More” offre diverse edizioni confezionate nel visionario artwork di Serse Rodriguez tra cui un doppio vinile – doppio CD ‘special edition’ con bonus dedicato a Jimi Hendrix che presenta diversi remix della favolosa cover di ‘Love or Confusion’. In tutte le versioni un poster disegnato da Mick Dillingham che riproduce la tavola periodica degli elementi: The Chemistry Set e i fondamenti della chimica. Ulteriore conferma che la musica dei nostri scienziati armonici poggia sempre di più su solide basi.

The Chemistry Set are based in London and come from far away starting to play music in the transition between the 80s and 90s years, a crossing that connects important neo-psychedelic planetary motions occurred in the early years of the two decades. In that middle ground, their reworking can capture the colors and sounds from the gravitational waves of the big bang 60s intercepted by Creation Records and Paisley Underground after the 1977 of Soft Boys and Jam.
An artistic vitality partly exposed on cassettes (via Acid Tapes), on various singles (via Imaginary Records), on a Syd Barrett tribute compilation and on a couple of albums of which the first (“Sounds Like Paintings”) unreleased. High expectations, music magazines and radios abuzz (also regularly transmitted by the legendary John Peel) for a dream interrupted in the early 90s despite the arrowy swirl The Set with two singles (Polydor). Then 15 years go by and the existential flow is renewed in 2009 with “Alchemy # 101”, a return full of overflowing energy where everything is transformed as in a chemical reaction even in joining to the underground current events and the creative process of The Chemistry Set may continue in a new popsike study on the pop properties of the psychedelic experience as a celebration in the making still directed by the two founders: Dave McLean and Paul Lake.
The next steps of their discography follow a steady rhythm, from the album “This Day Will Never Happen Again” (Dead Bees, 2010), to the resumption of live activity to the series of singles and EPs (including the supersonic remixes of ‘Chemistry Is Just Numbers’ by their Barcelona partner dj Gato, Tsunami, 2011) until the most recent 7inches that have been issued for the increasingly surprising Fruits de Mer Records who rightly release also this new album.
“The Endless More and More” starts very loud by exothermic drums on the majestic horn section of ‘The Splendour of the Universe’ between wah wah swarms and Dukes of Stratosphear resonances.
Deep and scintillating the music of The Chemistry Set, lands to the high fidelity thanks to a impeccable production that strengthen some of the titles of the singles like Time to Breathe’, next to The Beatles in the ecstasy of echoes, glissando, celestial vocals and ‘Kiss Me Vibrate and Smile’ fuzz wonder on backwards effects in a keyboards garage groove. Instant formulas that configure memorable themes like ‘The Fountains of Neptune’ and ‘A Cure for the Afflicted Inflicted’ performed on psych-blues Yardbirds vastness already coupled with ‘Elapsed Memories’ and relaunched from the namesake 7″EP of 2014.
A synthesis in the heart of the song form with unpredictable yields as ‘Crawling Back to You’, country weirdness that twirl in a slide funfair and prelude to ‘Albert Hofmann’, heartfelt homage to the chemical-scientist-philosopher on the sounds of a ultra-reverberating roundabout on which turns his ‘problem child’ in a playful recalling of Robyn Hitchcock narration. The senses are perfused by the guitars – keyboards comings and goings returned with accuracy by powerful rhythms, impossible to stand still on the mod-freakbeat frenzy ‘International Rescue’ and on the jingle jangle westcoast airiness of ‘The Canyon of the Crescent Moon’. When the electricity goes fading to acoustic arise ‘Winter Sun’ and ‘The Open Window’ mystical enchantment of intense beauty between crystalline arpeggios, eastern instruments and delighting orchestration reflecting Love’s “Forever Changes”.
The physical of “The Endless More and More” offers various editions wrapped in the visionary artwork of Serse Rodriguez including a double vinyl – double CD ‘special edition’ with bonus dedicated to Jimi Hendrix featuring several remixes of the fabulous cover of ‘Love or Confusion ‘. In all the editions there is a poster designed by Mick Dillingham reproducing the periodic table of elements: The Chemistry Set and the fundamentals of chemistry.
