Ritornano gli scienziati londinesi delle particelle freakbeat con il loro formidabile generatore: The Chemistry Set. Lo fanno percorrendo un ponte armonico oltre ogni muro e confine, nel mondo vinilico settepollici Hypnotic Bridge Records che apre le porte al 2021 con un inizio degno del suo catalogo. Gli esperimenti realizzati da Dave Mclean e Paul Lake in oltre 30 anni di attività hanno svelato le basi della visione e ricreato, come una macchina del tempo, i primi istanti di vita dell’universo psichedelico. Ci eravamo soffermati su alcuni risultati di questa esperienza con l’elogio di “The Endless More And More”, tra i top album degli anni 2010. Una discografia essenziale e preziosa a cui ora si aggiunge l’undicesimo singolo oltre a confermare la devozione della band per questo formato.
Musica esotermica sullo scorrere di vitalità chitarristica in un caleidoscopio di effetti che assume forme e colori come una fonte inesauribile. Carattere distintivo che The Chemistry Set rinnovano con energia nel turbine melodico yardbirdsiano di 
‘Paint Me a Dream’, mosaico ultrariverberato su intense ritmiche come un grande gioco cromatico. Impressione e rivelazione, pura rappresentazione astrofisica e misteriose dimensioni psiconautiche qui sviluppate nella cover di ‘The Witch’ gemma psychfolk di Mark Fry dal suo capolavoro “Dreaming With Alice” (1972). Le originali atmosfere acustiche aderiscono nella suggestiva intro, con samples dei cori gregoriani di ‘Every Christian Lion-Hearted Soldier’ dal primo Bee Gees (1967), per esplodere in una ‘interstellar overdrive’ etnocosmica. Un singolo favoloso, rappresentazione dell’immaginario futuristico che The Chemistry Set espongono come spazio straordinario della ricerca artistica.

A motore caldo, The Flower Machine prosegue nella produzione di essenze dopo il recente entusiasmante singolo dello scorso anno “Through a London Window / One in a Million”. Ai comandi Peter Quinnell (lead vocals, guitar, piano, bass) ed il recente equipaggio composto da Matt Nice (lead guitar, flute, electric piano, vocals) e Carl Dybowski (drums, mellotron). San Francisco è sempre sullo sfondo ad evocare le stagioni del ‘union of love and activism’ ed il pluralismo culturale dei movimenti che le animarono anche se musicalmente le sonorità neosixties della macchina floreale sono più british oriented.
Evidenza che traspare nell’infuso psichedelico beatles-pinkfloydiano di ‘Cups of Tea and LSD’ e rigenera racconti perduti come ‘Madman’, inedito di John Lennon del 1969 dalle sessions di “Let It Be” (aderenza a uno spirito esplorativo che nel precedente singolo rivisitava ‘One in a Million’ inedito dei primi Pink Floyd). Una natura popsike ricca di sensazioni dilettevoli (a cui appartiene anche l’omonimia tra il Quinnell musicista ed il Quinnell illustratore autore dell’artwork flower power) e atmosfere surreali che si addensano in ballate cedendo dolcemente al ricordo di Syd Barrett. ‘Come Out and Play’ e ‘Mushroom Tuesday’ sono esemplari di questo riflesso realmente magico fatto di pura sensibilità emotiva.

Dalla California al Cile lungo la costa del Pacifico poco a sud di Santiago, nel contesto di un’area che ha sviluppato una delle scene musicali underground più fiorenti del Sud America rivelando nella decade 2010 sorprendenti gruppi psych oriented come Föllakzoid, WatchOut!, The Psychedelic Schafferson Jetplane e molti altri. Su questa scena si affacciano ora i Mar Lunar di Curico con un EP autoprodotto pubblicato su Bandcamp e in streaming su YouTube. Fernando Lizana (chitarra, voce), Diego Diaz (flauto voce), Luis Hirsch (basso) e Freddy Bustamante (batteria) sono gli autori di questa prima opera notevole. Un’onda portante che sale dai 70s su frequenze chitarra – flauto nel segno di ibridi acid-prog-krautrock come Kollektiv o Rufus Zuphall, rivelandosi con potenza heavy blues e dinamiche space rock.
Gli effetti di variazioni nel suono esprimono un’invenzione vigorosa come un articolarsi vivente, irrazionale, selvatico ma nello stesso tempo attraversato da sviluppi melodici di grande suggestione. ‘Mente Errante’ è un impeto di wah wah e flauto riverberato nel profondo di groove ipnotici e frequenze di basso fuzz. Al centro della costellazione sonica ‘Diamante’ e ‘El Impulso del Sol’, corpi celesti dal moto fluttuante che intensifica su venature jazz. ‘Sueño Fugaz’ evolve elettrizzante regolando i comandi nel cuore del sogno per immaginare Mar Lunar messaggeri di prossime meraviglie.

The London scientists of freakbeat particles are back with their formidable generator: The Chemistry Set. They do so by crossing a harmonic bridge beyond every wall and border, in the 7inch vinyl world of Hypnotic Bridge Records which opens its doors to 2021 with a start worthy of its catalog. The experiments carried out by Dave Mclean and Paul Lake in over 30 years of activity have revealed the basics of vision and recreated, like a time machine, the first moments of life of the psychedelic universe. We had focused on some of the results of this experience with the praise of “The Endless More And More”, one of the top albums of the 2010s. An essential and precious discography to which now the eleventh single is added as well as confirming the devotion of the band for this size.
Exothermic music on the flow of guitar vitality in a kaleidoscope of effects that takes on shapes and colors like an inexhaustible source. A distinctive feature that The Chemistry Set renews with energy in the yardbirdsian melodic whirlwind of ‘Paint Me a Dream’, an ultra-reverberated mosaic on intense rhythms like a great chromatic game. Impression and revelation, pure astrophysical representation and mysterious psychonaut dimensions developed here in the cover of Mark Fry’s psychfolk gem ‘The Witch’ from his masterpiece “Dreaming With Alice” (1972). The original acoustic atmospheres adhere to the suggestive intro, with samples of the Gregorian choirs of ‘Every Christian Lion-Hearted Soldier’ from the first Bee Gees (1967), to explode in an ethnocosmic ‘interstellar overdrive’. A fabulous single, representation of the futuristic imaginary that The Chemistry Set expose as an amazing space of artistic research.

With the hot engine, The Flower Machine continues to produce essences after last year’s thrilling single “Through a London Window / One in a Million”. At the controls Peter Quinnell (lead vocals, guitar, piano, bass) and the recent crew composed by Matt Nice (lead guitar, flute, electric piano, vocals) and Carl Dybowski (drums, mellotron). San Francisco is always in the background to evoke the seasons of the ‘union of love and activism’ and the cultural pluralism of the movements that animated them even if musically the neosixties sounds of The Flower Machine are more British oriented.
Evidence that shines through the beatles-pinkfloydian psychedelic infusion of ‘Cups of Tea and LSD’ and regenerates lost tales such as ‘Madman’, John Lennon’s unreleased 1969 song from the sessions of “Let It Be” (adherence to an exploratory spirit that in the previous single revisited the unreleased ‘One in a Million’ by early Pink Floyd). A popsike nature full of delightful sensations (to which also belongs the homonymy between the Quinnell musician and the Quinnell illustrator author of the flower power artwork) and surreal atmospheres that gather in ballads, gently yielding to the memory of Syd Barrett. ‘Come Out and Play’ and ‘Mushroom Tuesday’ are exemplary of this truly magical reflex made of pure emotional sensitivity.

From California to Chile along the Pacific coast just south of Santiago, in the context of an area that has developed one of the most thriving underground music scenes in South America during the 2010 decade, revealing surprising psychedelic oriented bands such as Föllakzoid, WatchOut!, The Psychedelic Schafferson Jetplane and many more. The Mar Lunar from Curico now faces this scene with a self-produced EP published on Bandcamp and in streaming on YouTube. Fernando Lizana (guitar, vocals), Diego Diaz (flute vocals), Luis Hirsch (bass) and Freddy Bustamante (drums) are the authors of this first remarkable work. A carrier wave that rises from the 70s on guitar – flute frequencies in the sign of acid-prog-krautrock hybrids such as Kollektiv or Rufus Zuphall, which reveals itself with heavy blues power and space rock dynamics.
The effects of variations in the sound express a strong invention as a living, irrational, wild articulation but at the same time crossed by melodic developments of great suggestion. ‘Mente Errante’ is a rush of wah wah and flute reverberated in the depth of hypnotic grooves and fuzz bass frequencies. At the center of the sonic constellation ‘Diamante’ and ‘El Impulso del Sol’, celestial bodies with a fluctuating motion that intensifies on jazzy veins. ‘Sueño Fugaz’ electrifyingly evolves by set the controls for the heart of the dream, to imagine Mar Lunar messengers of forthcoming wonders.
