Al giro di boa degli anni 2010, la scena svedese si è decisamente affermata 
tra le più creative del corso underground planetario. Una magnifica realtà di esploratori di cui fanno parte anche Me and My Kites, collettivo neo hippie dell’area di Stoccolma che si ripropone con il secondo album “Is It Real or is it Made?” sulla scia di un vento elettrico psych-folk variamente ispirato ed orientato nel diffondere una propria originalità.
Formazione nata nel 2012 e sempre aperta ad una vasta area di partecipazione in cui spiccano due musicisti molto attivi tra contributi e produzioni come David Svedmyr (Flight Reaction, Life on Earth!, Ill Wicker) e Lisa Isaksson conosciuta anche come Lisa O Piu per i suoi due bellissimi albums e la collaborazione con Roger Wootton dei Comus in ‘Cut The Air At Mello Club’ (Mellotronen, 2009) preludio alla seconda vita della cult band inglese. I loro studi si fondano proprio sui ‘libri di testo’ scritti nella florida epopea progressiva britannica fine 60 primi 70 per approdare all’esordio nel 2013 con il singolo 
settepollici “Me And My Kites with Tony Durant Of Fuchsia” (Regal Crabomophone – Fruits de Mer) rivelatore fin dal titolo di un’altro incontro significativo (anche per il nome del gruppo). Nello stesso anno esce il primo album “Like a Dream Back Then” (ÅÄÖ Fonogram), avvolgente acid vision tinteggiata di pop a catturare dalla prima all’ultima nota e a rielaborare le leggi fisiche del già udito.
Troppo bello per essere vero? Entrambi le cose per fortuna e a due anni di distanza anche ripetibili e dimostrabili con il nuovo album “Is It Real or is it Made?” realizzato in glorioso vinile autoprodotto su Porcupine Records. Così una volta reso possibile il sogno, Me and My Kites si chiedono cosa sia in realtà perchè se c’è differenza tra come è fatto il mondo e come lo percepiamo c’è anche modo di esprimerlo in musica. I luoghi escono da magmatiche ballate kingcrimsoniane dense di cori e mellotron come in ‘Psykjuntan’ (omaggio al festival estivo Psykjunta, evento imprescindibile sui nuovi moti underground svedesi) o rarefatte nel crepuscolo di ‘Cala de San Pedro’, una Formentera Lady vellutata jazz su brezze di flauto e pianoforte. Atmosfere baleariche innescano le emozioni sulle frequenze di una Radio Gnome Invisible a trasmettere i Gong da un universo parallelo con ‘Happy Then Crying’ in mix stellare su ‘Hide Away Tonight’, una Space Oddity di musica folk marziana.
Me and My Kites conservano fragranze out-pop e stabiliscono connessioni Canterbury sound per riflettere nuove contaminazioni nelle ariosità di ‘Narcissus’, ‘Curse’ e ‘Porcelain’ (quest’ultima dall’EP-CD che ha preceduto l’album). I pensieri scorrono sul Volo Magico di ‘Say it’s Real’ in un crescendo di corde elettroacustiche e clappings ritmati verso una drammatica realtà: ‘War’, c’è mai stato un giorno senza guerra nella storia dell’uomo? Vorticano in turbolenze chitarristiche westcoastiane nell’altrove free festival di Magic Mushroom Band a planare su ‘Common Life’, fantastica distesa Caravan-pinkfloydiana alle porte di Haight Ashbury tra fiati celestiali e spaziosità acustiche.
Naturale rispondere alla fine: Is it real or is it made? Si, tutto vero, tutto inventato.

At the halfway point of the 2010s, the Swedish scene has definitely established itself among the most creative in the world’s underground route. A wonderful reality of explorers which also include Me and My Kites, neo hippie collective from the Stockholm area that recurs with the second album “Is It Real or Is It Made?” in the wake of a psych-folk electric wind variously inspired and oriented to spread its own originality.
The band was founded in 2012 and always open to a wide area of participation mostly led by two artists very active in contributions and productions such as David Svedmyr (Flight Reaction, Life on Earth !, Ill Wicker) and Lisa Isaksson also known as Lisa O Piu for her two beautiful albums and collaboration with Roger Wootton of Comus in ‘Cut The Air at Mello Club’ (Mellotronen, 2009) prelude to the second life of the British cult band.
Their studies are quite based on the ‘textbooks’ written in the flourishing British progressive saga of late 60s – early 70s to arrive at the debut in 2013 with a seven-inch single “Me And My Kites with Tony Durant Of Fuchsia” (Regal Crabomophone – Fruits de Mer) revealing another significant meeting right from the title (also for the band’s name). In the same year they released their first album “Like a Dream Back Then” (ÅÄÖ Fonogram), an enchanting tinged pop acid vision to delight from the first to the last note and reprocess the physical laws of the already heard.
Too good to be true? Both things thankfully and two years later also repeatable and demonstrable with the new album “Is It Real or Is It Made?” released in glorious vinyl selfproduced on Porcupine Records. So Once the dream is made possible, Me and My Kites are wondering what is actually because if there is a difference between how the world is made and how we perceive it, there is also a way to express it in music.
The places emerge from magmatic kingcrimson-esque ballads, full of choirs and mellotron as ‘Psykjuntan’ (homage to the summer festival Psykjunta, essential event on the Swedish new underground motions) or rarefied in the twilight of ‘Cala de San Pedro’, a velvety jazz Formentera Lady on flute and piano breezes. Balearic atmospheres trigger emotions on the frequencies of a Radio Gnome Invisible to transmit Gong from a parallel universe with ‘Happy Then Crying’ in stellar mix on ‘Hide Away Tonight’, a Space Oddity of martian folk music.
Me and My Kites maintain strange-pop fragrances and establish Canterbury sound connections to reflect new contaminations in the airiness of ‘Narcissus’, ‘Curse’ and ‘Porcelain’ (the latter from the EP-CD that preceded the album).
Thoughts flow on the Volo Magico (*) of ‘Say It’s Real’ in a crescendo of electroacoustic strings and rhythmic clappings towards a dramatic reality: ‘War’, has ever been a day without war in the history of man? Swirl into westcoast guitar turbulences in the elsewhere free festival of Magic Mushroom Band to glide on ‘Common Life’, fantastic caravan-pinkfloyd-esque expanse at the gates of Haight Ashbury among celestial wind-instruments and acoustic spaciousness.
The natural answer in the end: Is it real or is it made? Yes, all true, all invented.
